The Geneva Convention clearly states that the production of chemical warfare is not allowed in the great game of war. But what that means to countries is produce and don't tell.
Survivors believe this is the most logical explanation for the end of the world. What else could kill, revive and mutate.
A cold passed around like wild fire. One person sat down in a restaurant and passed it to the forty occupants of the room by the time he paid for his meal and left. The men and women in the restaurant got up and went back to their offices, their families, and even back to their schools to finish up the last part of the day.
Within a few days the minor cold had swept across all 48 states. It took a little bit longer to reach Alaska and Hawaii, so many people canceled their flights when they began to feel under the weather. Health clinics had people lined up outside for their shots when word of it first broke out. But no modern medication could defeat this virus.
After 48 hours of being infected the host of the virus would die. Symptoms included high fever which lead the victim into a state of delirium, nausea, excessive phlegm, exhaustion and migraines.
The families would wipe their eyes, call an ambulance, have their loved ones shipped off to the morgue until they could start planning the funeral, and within that time another family member would die. But 12 hours after that first one passed they would wake up.
But they would no longer be the same.
In death their bodies decomposed at an accelerated rate. Not all the way though, family members could still recognize them, and the ones stricken by grief would even run to embrace the walking corpse.
Military took action fast, but most of them were infected with the virus as well. The ones who weren't killed by the undead, dropped after a little while from their own infections.
The creatures that rose in the bodies of former human beings are what we know as zombies. They feed of human flesh, it's their sustenance. They do not sleep. They only feed. When they have no fed for a while they grow weak, and cannot run as fast nor can they stand for much longer.
They can be killed by severing the head from the body, or destroying the brain.
But
As in every case, there are those who were immune. They flock to a place in the Pacific North West known as The Safe Zone.
Where volunteers and immune soldiers spend their days watching the Gates, and killing as many of the abominations as they can. Civilians live with in these walls, but they have strict rules.
*Any one who passes through the Gates must go through extenstensive tests to see if they are carrying an evolved version of the virus -they must carry no wounds.
*No one leaves with out authorization from the Higher Ups -unless they plan on not returning
*By night fall all civilians must be in the bunkers. For their own safety.
and finally
*No civilian will carry a weapon.
This last rule caused quite a bit of strife between civilians and soldiers, and the Higher Ups.
Which is what caused most of the Nomads. People who believe they are better off on their own then prisoners in The Safe Zone
But most Civilians prefer the safety and security over the freedom and danger.
Come and see how you survive this new world.
